A traveler’s mindset opens eyes to the beauty, art, and magnificence of life. Journey the world via photos.
- The Great Pyramids in Egypt outlasted all the great wonders of the ancient world. When I took this photo years ago, we hired camels to walk around the massive structures (likely built around 2500 BC). The Sphinx watched our every move.
- After shopping cookie-cutter Mall shops, I miss the crafter’s shops from my travels. I love the mortar and pestle I purchased from this brasscrafter in Aleppo (Syria).
- Soaps carved into delicate flowers in the Chiang Mai market (Thailand). Booth after booth of handcrafted goods line the streets. Have baht? Silk scarves, wood carvings, jade jewelry, t-shirts and more are all here!
- A street vendor in Kolkata prepares chai tea. But no disposable cups here…I enjoyed my piping hot tea in a handmade clay cup. (India) #WeAreTravelers
- Vivid colors fill the streets of the Bangalore flower markets. The floral business has grown into international and prosperous ventures, for better and for worse. (India)
- A narrow passage cut in rose sandstone leads the way to Petra — ruins from the Nabataean civilization (4th – 1st Century BC). It’s one of the oldest places I’ve ever visited.
- “What??” An african buffalo with an attitude is one buffalo to leave alone. We kept driving. (Zambia)
- At dusk, the glow of New York City begins (view from the Empire State Building).
- Once upon a time, we wandered through the grand halls of the Krak des Chevaliers. A beam of light streamed into this room as we rounded a corner. Now the world’s oldest medieval castle sits in the midst of a country torn by war. May peace come soon. (Syria)
- An ordinary squirrel but it’s my favorite shot in Washington DC this day. No monuments or museums…just a really cool squirrel.
- Sometimes the loneliness and expanse of the journey overwhelms. But then I recall “How precious are your thoughts about me, O God…I can’t even count them; they outnumber the grains of sand! And when I wake up, you are still with me!” (Psalm 138:17-18) At Great Sand Dunes National Park
- Montana big sky stretches miles and miles and miles. Storms did not sneak up on us here! Local residents could look at clouds forming in the distance and accurately estimate when it would start raining. Huge difference from my east coast forested life.
- God’s paintbrush dipped into all the colors when creating the Rainbow Hot Springs (Yellowstone National Park)
- A Celarain Lighthouse window frames the many hues of Caribbean blue.
- Amazing wonders appear even five feet from my front door. A hummingbird explores our garden.
- The Tower at Clingman’s Dome (6,643 ft) in the Smoky Mountains. Remembering and missing 2nd highest point east of the Mississippi River. The clear day allowed 360 degrees of stunning views into Tennessee and North Carolina.
- Center pivot irrigation in Kansas-Nebraska area from 30,000 feet. Massive sprinklers on long pipe segments pivot like a waterwheel to nourish crops…and create geometric imprint on the land.
- The depth of human history astounds me in Jerusalem.
- Sunrise flashback: Several days of backpacking and a middle of the night wake-up, allowed us to hike this Ute Trail peak (over 12,000′) and watch the sunrise BELOW us. Silence overcame us as beauty spread with each divine ray of light. (Colorado)
- Elephants intrigue, amaze, and overwhelm me. Stunning creation. We came upon this mama and baby on a safari in Zambia.
- Ruins from the 1773 earthquake remain standing in Antigua (Guatemela). An amazing community now thrives among the volcanoes and cobblestones.
- Dueling iguanas provide afternoon entertainment in the Yucatan (Mexico).
- In the Smoky Mountains, we rounded the corner and found butterflies puddling (without the puddle). The party held their attention more than concern for the humans hiking through.
- Bamboo hat resting on the porch of our guest home in Thailand. The farmer and his family graciously welcomed us in their home for an evening along the border.
- Brick wall serves as a canvas for inspiration in inner Philadelphia. We came upon this elaborate dance of design during a prayer walk.
- Transport via rickshaw remains a constant in India.
- A sandbar somewhere off the coast of the Dominican Republic. Warm waters about shoulder high greeted us as we jumped off our boat to explore the sandy rise. Giant red starfish dotted the watery landscape. We named him Patrick.
- Stunning beauty at Thi Lo Su waterfall in Thailand.
- A late afternoon stroll through Central Park. The 800+ acres of trees, bridges, and water offer a sanctuary for the millions of NYC residents and visitors. We walked, sat on rocks, and took lots of pictures.
- Marmots greeted us on trails and boardwalks throughout Yellowstone. Never very shy, their kazoo-like voices piped up whenever we got close. (Wyoming)
- On my first trip to Chichen Itza years ago, we climbed the near-vertical steps of El Castillo. Bonus was watching the lightning storm from the top! (Yucatan, Mexico) #WeAreTravelers
- Dubai: Humans making an impact on the planet. Some good, some not so good. Let’s just work together to take care of our 3rd rock from the sun.
- Our hike into a Colorado aspen grove: like being in the midst of a Divine song. “And all the trees of the field shall know that I am the Lord.” (Ezekiel 17:24) Ute Trail (Colorado)
- Research and care for endangered green turtles also allows education for us humans. (Grand Cayman Island)
- Gently, very gently, we met a couple cheetahs at a Zambian nature preserve. Their efforts to introduce people to the giant cats –and to breed the cats — will help ensure better conservation measures. Zambia is one of several African nations committed to the international policies to protect and bring back the cheetah.
- Standing on the latest flow from Pacaya volcano (Guatemala). Steam from molten lava rose through scattered, narrow fissures in the surface-cooled rock. The uneven and jagged surface reduced walking to a cautious tiptoe. The sharp edges of planet earth’s newest rock would slice skin if I stumbled with my usual grace.
- The giraffe paused her treetop munching as we approached (Zambia). Gentle eyes shaded with Hollywood eyelashes studied our truck of humans. Her baby was less than interested. Both posed long enough for lots of photos. Bonus!
