How to Study the Bible

I recently came across my first “real” Bible…green leather-like cover with my gold-embossed name on the cover. My parents gave it to me when I was 12 years old.

My green Bible traveled to summer camp with me during middle school, participated in high school youth group, then went to college with me.

I didn’t really study my green Bible, though. I do remember trying to read it: I began in Genesis then moved on to Exodus…got lost in Leviticus…then numbing boredom set in by Numbers. How could this book be the world’s #1 bestseller?

It wasn’t until college that I began to learn how to study it. Teachers and Bible study leaders taught me how find the treasure trove of wisdom and understanding that I continue to draw from today.

Want to Learn?

Have you wanted to study the Bible but did not quite know how to go about it?

I’d like to invite you to join me on a ten-week journey to:
1) study the book of Mark, and
2) learn ten methods of studying the Bible.

Each week read an article in this series. You’ll explore a chapter or two of Mark as well as learn a new approach to explore the scripture. You’ll also learn how to use the many online resources  to study the Bible.

The 10-Week Plan

Week One: Understanding the Bible (and how does the Book of Mark fit?)

Week Two: Insights and Tools for Mark 1 – 3

Week Three: Parables and Translations in Mark 4

Week Four: Inductive Bible Study (Mark 5 & 6)

Week Five: How to do a Chapter Analysis (Mark 8 & 9)

Week Six: How to do a Verse Study and a Word Study (Mark 10:45)

Week Seven: Studying the Bible through Reflective Writing (Mark 11)

Week Eight: How to do a Topical Bible Study (Mark 12)

Week Nine: How to do a Character Study (Mark 13 &14 on Peter)

Week Ten: Evidence of the Resurrection in Mark 15 & 16

At the conclusion of these ten weeks, you will be equipped to study and learn from any passage of Scripture!

Your Turn

First, make the choice to study God’s Word.

Second, read and study one lesson each week using the technique detailed.

Third, please let me know how you are doing!!

Your word is a lamp to my feet
and a light for my path.
(Psalm 119:105)
