Pictures of Peace from Psalm 133

“How wonderful, how beautiful,
when brothers and sisters get along!

It’s like costly anointing oil
flowing down head and beard,
Flowing down Aaron’s beard,
flowing down the collar of his priestly robes.

It’s like the dew on Mount Hermon
flowing down the slopes of Zion.
Yes, that’s where God commands the blessing,
ordains eternal life.”
(Psalm 133)

During the psalmist David’s day, people viewed olive trees as gifts from God. Their oil was an outpouring of God’s blessings. Priests and prophets were anointed into ministry with oil lavishly flowing over their humbly-bowed heads … the Spirit of God now upon them.

Anointing oil poured in abundance symbolizes the extravagance of a gracious God … much like peace streaming between treasured relationships.

Northeast of the Sea of Galilee lies Mount Hermon. In this dry region, its heavy dews and snow melt provide life-sustaining waters for the communities below. With this nourishment, fragile life thrives.

Dew flowing in abundance symbolizes the extravagance of a gracious God … much like the refreshing and soothing waters of peace amidst fragile relationships.

Pause to Ponder…

Ahhh, the priceless and precious blessing of brothers and sisters living in harmony. How are you contributing?

Have you brought healing to a broken relationship?

How are you pouring into other peoples’ lives?

We are either helping, hurting, or doing nothing…which ultimately is hurting. What is your choice?

Love it Sharon. This was one of my favourite verses when I first became a Chritian. I’m ashamed to admit that I forgot about it!! A fantastic reminder to me, to be proactive in seeing unity come amongst friends, and other church groups. You’ve given me an idea! Thanks for the post.
