In a cybergroup with fellow writers, we post fun … wacky … thought-provoking questions. Joining one another’s ruminating can bring a good laugh! Many thanks to Patty Wysong for casting the vision and cooking up the progressive interview feast!
Here is my question and the articulate responses to a question we’ve all pondered …
Wonder Women and X-Men ….
If you could have any superpower to improve your writing what would it be?
“The power to turn time backwards. I could use an extra couple of hours in a day.”
– Sharon Clements Srock
“Teleportation to both real places as well as fictional places! It would put a whole new spin on research and make things sooooo much easier! Not to mention how fun it would be. But then I’d need even more duct tape to keep my butt in the chair working and not “doing research” and getting sidetracked, like I’m so prone to do. I’ve often wished I could teleport home (Ecuador, South America) to research the historical I have in the pipes. Of course, there’d have to be a scene at the beach (suffering, don’cha ya know), in the jungle to check out the monkeys–which means a river ride in a dug out canoe, and going high in the Paramo at the base of my favorite mountain, Chimborazo, to visit the Quichua and research their homes. I’d have to (GET TO) visit missionary friends and listen to their stories and travel with them… Sigh. Teleportation would be so much more convenient and cheaper than regular travel. Beam me up, Scotty. Please?”
–Patty Sargent Wysong
“Oh wow! I like yours, Patty, but I think it would be nice to have spell check/dictionary/thesaurus brain. It’s so time consuming to have to stop and look up something, or try to think of just the right word. I’d like to be able to fit a word to a certain time. ( What was slang at that time? . . .etc.) It would certainly help with poetry, where you not only need specific meaning of words, but rhythm, rhyme, and phonetics. Yes, that would help my writing considerably!”
–Yvonne Blake
“That I would have a brain full of trivial facts about the time period I was writing about. Then I wouldn’t have to spend days researching.”
–Diana Lesire Brandmeyer
“My desired superpower? I’d like to be Super First Draft Woman! Instead, I often find myself rewriting huge chunks of story that didn’t really fit. Then I try to figure out what the story is REALLY about. Could I just skip to a first draft that needs some minor tidying up, please?”
– Valerie Friesen Comer
“WRITING super power? I’s want the power to write exactly as much as is in my head in the time allotted. OR someone to do everything else for me so I can write.”
– Joanne Sher
“I’d like the power to “resist the urge to explain”. ‘Nuff said.”
– Janet Sketchley
“I’m with Patty on the superpower. I’d like to pop in and out of historical time periods/places at will to get the first-hand knowledge needed for my story. But what if I met up with one of my fictional characters there? Uh-oh. They’d be sitting on the curb, chin in hand, asking, “What happens next?” when they saw me.”
– Donna Winters
“Turn off that blasted internal editor! My superpower would be productivity– just getting it on the page!Let those words flow without worrying about clarity. Methinks I need to get involved in NaNoWriMo.”
– Kristi Peifer
“Super power, I’d have grammar powers.”
– Christina Rich
So, tell me…
if you could have a superpower,
what would you choose??

This was such a fun question! Along with teleportation I’d like speed writing because I’m soooo slooooooow at it.
Oooh … speed writing! What a great idea, Patty!
I’d love to turn time backwards, but my favorite super hero was Spiderman.
Hi Sharon! Going back in time would definitely allow for a most interesting day of research!
I never thought of teleportation but oh how much fun that would be!
Indeed…the rapid transport would transform us! Thanks for visiting, Christina!
LOL – fun question and love the answers. I’m thinking teleportation would be an awesome research tool for sure! And if it’s a dangerous time, you can exit fast! :)
Haha, Audra! So true! Suddenly research on the Titantic or Mt Vesuvius would become an option! Thanks for stopping by. :-)
