Hassle-free Home Life

Last night’s HomeFront gathering provided time to talk about family and parents with our high school students. Ruth’s decree to her mother-in-law Naomi gave us the basis for our discussion: “Where you do I will go, and where you stay I will stay. Your people will be my people and your God will be my God.” (Ruth 1:16)

Your high school sons and daughters brainstormed ways to bring this text to life amidst our own families…

“Where you go I’ll go”  Places we can go to be together: to the lake, get ice cream, movie night at home, serve at the Lamb Center, eat out, ski and snowboard, the beach, set aside a day to just be together.

“Where you stay I’ll stay”  Things I can do to help my family get along at home include: talk and listen better, do the dishes (and other chores) and not complain when asked to help out, don’t argue, try to understand each other, be nice to each other, do homework when asked to.

“Your people will be my people”  What my parents and I can do help accept each other’s friendships include: try to talk with friends, make time for everyone to have ‘friend time’, encourage friendships, not complain about them, encourage parents to go out with their friends, share experiences with each others’ friends.

“Your God will be my God”  Ways my parents and I can support each others’ faith include praying for one another, sharing prayer requests, do devotions together, go to church together, hold each other accountable for reading the Bible daily, have a Christian jamfest!

Thank you CPC families for sharing your teens! They are an amazingly insightful group. The challenge is ours and theirs… the students will be seeking to uphold their ways to encourage the family. Can we parents also do the same?  :-)
